Juicing and various types of estrattori di succo.
Juicing is becoming more and more popular in these days. The reasons are simple. Fresh juice from fruits and vegetables makes you feel better, boosts you with energy and is a great resourses of vitamins, minerals and enzymes. Can you also help in the prevention of colds and diseases or may even cure some diseases. We can buy juice in store but they usually contains chemical preservatives and artificial ingredients. Better way is juice from freshly extracted fruits and vegetables. The question is how we can get a fresh juice in home from fruits and vegetables from own garden or bought from store. There are many juicers which can help me but the real problem is there are realy many juicer outside. Our webpage will help you to make some idea about various types of slow speed cold press juicers and juicing.
We will not speak about fast centrifugal juicers which you can buy almost in every store. We will focus on auger juicers, twin gear juicers and also manual juicers. We believe that lower RPMs used during the extraction are more gentle to enzymes than 10000 RPMs.
On the market are many brands of single auger juicers and we can divide them into two groups. Both of them are using auger and filter for crashig fruit and vegetables and pressing wet fibres throught filters walls. The first and also historicali first are horizontal auger juicers.
First were produced some 30 years ago in South Korea where juicing has a very strong tradition. They are generally more easy to clean than vertical juicers, more versatile because they can homogenize fruits and vegetables into puree, baby food and frozen fruit into ice cream, prepare a few types of pasta from dough and can better handle leafy greens, wheatgrass and herbs. They run with cca 70 RPM. Of course not all of them are on the same quality level.
The difference between them are in used filters, augers, materials and also accessories. You can find single-phase filter which has Petra or Midzu juicer . Single-phase filter is a little bit less effective in the juice yield and juice is containing a little bit more pulp. There are also two-stage filters which have Sana, Omega and also Oscar juicers. These filters seem to be the best solution for horizontal juicer nowadays. They are made from strong GE Ultem material and are efficient also on leafy greens.
Augers are usually made from GE Ultem material too (black auger) but some older models can have auger from Melamine which had some health issues in the past (white auger).
So from the material point of view some of them have all juicing parts from BPA free Tritan and GE Ultem materials, for example Sana Juicer, other have just some parts from GE Ultem material (Omega) and some are made from Polypropylene carbonate and also melamine.
All aspects mentioned above have influence on the final price. Important is also number of accessories. Majority of juicers have basic accessories which include juicing filter, blank filter, auger, nozzle set, plastic bowls for juice and pulp, cleaning brush and pusher. The most accessories in the basic package can be found in the Sana EUJ-707 juicer which contain also coarse filter, glass juice container and stainless steel pulp container so in the fact all parts are BPA free.
Some juicers like Oscar Neo DA 1000, Sana EUJ-606 or Matstone have the pulp regulation knob. An usage of this feature is a little bit questionable. Producers are claiming that thanks to this feature can juicer produce more juice. But they forgot to mentioned that higher pressure during juicing is pushing more pulp/fibres into the juice. The difference in juice yield was from your experience negligible. In every case regulation knob represents more parts to clean and if you set the regulation wrongly with softer fruits you can expect difficulties with juicing. But you will find more about this in our tests.
Other type of horizontal juicer represents Champion which mentioned also guru of modern juicing Norman W. Walker in his book Succhi Freschi di Frutta e Verdura. Champion juicer is on the market more than 50 years. This juicer is using powerful motor which can work all day long. Juicing run under 1425 RPM and juice is separated from fibres by cutter with blades. Juice can be a little bit warmer if a larger amount of fruits or vegetables is juiced due the fact that cutter is being heated by friction. Also Champion juicer has a blank filter for homogenization. Thank to it´s blades the Champion juicer is not very effective on leafy greens.
Among horizontal juicers exists also auger juicer without filter. You can find it under the Lexen brand and this juicer is using only coclea for pressing juice. This juicer is designed for leafy greens but is also great on small berries and fruits like currants and olivello spinoso. Thanks to the absence of filter which is normally blocked by small seeds after some time, the Lexen can handle small berries better than other horizontal juicers. It´s not designed for big soft fruits and hard vegetables juicing.
Single auger vertical juicers
A few years ago begin a big boom of vertical juicers. They have a nice new design and thanks to vertical auger works faster and with a heavy fruits and vegetables you almost don´t need to use a pusher during the work like with a horizontal juicers. First of them was Hurom which is sold also under the brand Omega VRT in the USA and Europe. Same producer is behind the new Sana EUJ-808 second generation juicer which works under the 43 RPM. Hurom was producing juicers also for the Coway company which changed producer and now Coway juicers are made in China. After Hurom juicer introduction on the world market many other companies became with their own juicers. Other South Korean producers developed their own vertical juicers which work on the same princip like Hurom. Many Chinese producers are releasing one vertical juicer after another but if you take a closer look on these juicers you will found out they are copies of Hurom juicer first generation. They have almost identical augers and filters but the quality of used materials and motors are different.
Lets have a look on the juicing system.
Like a horizontal juicer it consists of the auger, filter and main juicing part from which juice and pulp goes out. Some of them has in additional cestino rotante con silicone blades which First generation of vertical juicers are using single blade auger (left picture). New models have double blade auger which is pushing fruits and vegetables better into the bottom part of juicing bowl. New Coway juicer combined filter, auger and cestino rotante in one piece and fruits and vegetables are crushed against juicing bowl and coclea. Vertical juicers are good on soft fruits and combination of root and leafy vegetables. These juicers can also prepare nice almond and other vegetables milks. Juicers with a juice flap are for almond milk even better because the mixture can reach a better and full taste and doesn´t exit the juicer too quickly like from juicers without a juice flap.
Leafy greens can be something a problem for vertical juicers. If you extract a large amount of leafy greens and no other vegetables or fruit which would push leaves down through the juicing system you will not get a good juice yield. For example the Gerson therapy is using a several glasses of green juices per day made only from leafy greens and our tests showed us that for those who should drink from healthy reason more green juices is better choice horizontal auger or twin gear juicer.
The maximum size of a feeding tube of vertical and horizontal juicers is from safety and CE reasons only 4,5 x 3,5 cm. Only Kuvings slow juicers has a bigger feeding tube. Because they Kuvings company developed a new juicing system their juicer can have a feeding tube of apple size like is a common with fast centrifugal juicers. The disadvantage of vertical juicers is that majority of these juicers don´t have a homogenization of fruits and vegetables like horizontal juicers. They are not designed for making puree, baby food or pasta.
Twin gear juicers
Another type of juicers are twin gear juicers which are using two gears for pressing fruits and vegetables. On the market we can find three main brands. Angel juicer, Green Power Kempo and Green Star juicer. All of them are produced in South Korea.
Juicing takes a little bit more time because you need to push fruits and root vegetables between gears and use more strength but results are worthy. Juicing of leafy greens is very easy and juice yield is excellent. Angel juicer is made completely from stainless steel and as we found in the internet resources the Angel has the best juice yield from a juicer. Twin gears have three stages and the final pulp is very very dry. The filter and hopper are made in just one piece so you don´t have to many parts to clean. Thanks to expensive production costs the final price is very high.
Green Power Kempo and Green Star juicers have a common history because in the beginning was only one factory and two engineers. One of them left the company, set up his own and produced first Green Star juicer. If you take a closer look on Green Power Kempo and Green Star juicer you will find out that Green star is a bigger step-brother of Kempo. Both juicers are using similar parts, pulp regulation knobs, Kempo is just smaller. Green Star juicer is using magnets in gears. Kempo has magnets in gears, pusher and also juice bowl. Producers claim that magnetic technology allows to extract juice of higher nutritional content. The magnets create a focused magnetic field that rearranges clusters of water so that it can latch on to more the valuable vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients and extract it into your juice. But nobody has came with any scientific proof of this claim so far so we don´t know if it is only a marketing tool.
With Kempo and Green star juicer you can homogenize food and prepare also some types of long pasta. With Angel juicer is available also peanut butter screen for making butter from nuts and coarse screen but because they are from stainless steel they are expensive.
Slow juicers producer are using two types of motors for their juicer. AC motor and DC motor.
Many of us get confused when comparing the AC motor slow juicers and the DC motor slow juicers. So we were searching a little bit a found interesting informations. The main component in slow juicing lies in the motor of the slow juicer and it looks like AC motors are more suitable for juicers. Expensive twin gear juicers are using only AC motors.
AC motor DC motor
The AC motors used in Sana, Omega, Hurom and Oscar slow juicers are specially designed and manufactured for “home use“ to provide the best juicing experience and product confidence. AC motors with this specification are produced in South Korean factory. Other branded slow juicers use different type of AC motors or widely available DC motors produced by other manufacturers around the world mainly in China.
For example the 70-80 RPM AC motor produced by the HUROM factory is designed and is specifically chosen at such speed for best juicing results. HUROM’s R&D department decided on this speed after finding that RPMs higher than this range affects the cutting action of large or hard vegetables/fruits. RPMs lower that this range on the other hand affects the juicing efficiency. Customers wants slower and slower juicers so to meet their requirements the second generation of Hurom and also Sana juicer have AC motor with 43 RPM.)
DC motors are limited to run at around 40 RPM due to torque requirements for slow juicing. Gear configurations to run a DC motor at 70-80 RPM has negative effects on the lifespan on the DC motor. DC motors use for example Coway company for it´s Essezina juicer.
Slow RPM in DC motors are achieved using gears with the DC motor core still rotating at high speeds. This is a DC motors armature. Because of its high speed, the heat generated causes operation failure to be common in a DC motor. A DC motors lifespan is finite due to this.
Depends on the customers to decide whether claims of 10-year warranty for DC motors in slow juicers are justified or merely lip-service for making sales.
There are also a few manual estrattori di succo and the main difference between them is in used material. They are good on leafy greens but when you try to make a juice from hard root vegetables like carrots you will find out that is a little bit difficult because you will need to use more power to turn the handle. Stainless steel juicers will last you much longer than plastic one.
You can find also citrus press juicers which are great on all kinds of oranges and also pomegranate. The advantage is that you don´t need to peel oranges and pomegranates but simply cut in the half and squeeze them.
So as you can see, even if we didn’t mention all juicers which exist the offer is really big and we have plenty juicer to choose from.
